Another Merlin Flys, well, actually 2 more…..

Photos from the Czech Republic:

Yes it is orange, no it is not my demo Merlin but a new Merlin built for our New Zealand customer. It was supposed to go as a quick-build kit. But as it is an early HKS version we collectively decided to finish and test fly it in the Czech Republic. The good news is it flys very well and the Czech LAA has officially approved the HKS installation. More good news is the container is ordered and this aircraft is finally on its way to our extremely patient customer. The bad news is it took forever to finish. But that is not uncommon with new installation. Better to make it right. Now the next Merlin/HKS aircraft will be with proven installations.

A third Merlin flew recently in the UK. They all fit 582 engines to meet the strict 300KG SSDR rule.

  1. Congratulations to Chip Erwin, and praise to the factory for the installation and approval of the HKS engine. Am eager to see test-flight performance figures (specifically rates-of-climb) between the HKS and Rotax 582.

  2. Thanks. I will have the certification report from the Czech LAA test pilot next week and will post the important stuff. Meanwhile, rushing to get a HKS-Merlin ready for the Oshkosh show.
