Back from Myanmar & China: Quick updates

Back from Myanmar & China: Quick updates

Today is my first day back after a 2 week trip to more than 1/2 way around the world. 13 hour time change.

This post might be a little short due to a huge pile of work and big press to get the electric aircraft ready for Oshkosh and of course deliveries. It was a very good trip with visits to various entities in Beijing, Shanghai, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Doumen. Plus a very interesting side trip to the country of Myanmar where there is not even one single Starbucks, McDonalds, or KFC. But that won’t last.

My friend ShuDong has made some nice posts so for those interested:

The trip to Myanmar was really surprising. This country appears to have been mostly ignored for the last 50 years. A lot like Eastern Europe when I first went there in the early 90s. It could be another new frontier to bring aviation to. I don’t think there are hardly any general or sport aircraft in the entire country.

In Shenzhen I managed to meet my battery cell supplier and see their high-tech LiPo factory. They are excited to be a supplier for aircraft power and are making some custom runs for cells to our specs. This means we will soon have one of the highest energy density battery packs commercially possible.

Incidentally I should mention that our motor is now running very well and meeting our expectations for power. This week we should be running the dyno tests and finally have real numbers to brag about.

Combined with our new battery cells we should easily exceed an hours’ endurance and will either be able to reduce the size of the battery pack for lighter weight or simply fly longer.

Today the high-wing PSA that I plan to bring to Oshkosh ships. I will need to create a name for it soon. Any ideas?

Cheers, Chip
